Obituary

Annie "Ann" Jane Raffield Couchigian, 89, of Panama City, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, August 29, 2021. She entered her Heavenly home to a large welcoming celebration; healed, healthy and whole again.

Ann is remembered for always having a love for life, positive attitude and contagious laugh.  Many say you could not leave a conversation with Ann without a smile on your face and laughing.  Ann had many talents one of which was planning, organizing and executing – anything from birthdays, bridal showers to wedding receptions.  She loved being around people and had a knack for creating welcoming and positive connections with everyone whose life she touched.

She was born June 19, 1932, in Panama City, Florida, to Reverend Coy & Bonnie Raffield.  After graduating from Bay High School, Ann worked for Southern Bell as an Operator, where she enjoyed several travel opportunities.  She was married for 53 wonderful years to Lt. Col. Donald 'Cooch' E. Couchigian. They enjoyed traveling throughout Cooch's military career.  During their nine years in Germany, she collected antique clocks, paintings and other beautiful collectibles from her travels throughout Europe.  She embraced her military families by serving as the Hospitality Chairperson for the Officers' Wives Club, welcoming new families and ensuring needs were met during sickness or challenging times.  She truly cared for everyone and was willing to help in any way necessary.

After retiring and moving back to Panama City, Florida, Ann and Cooch became active members of St. John's Catholic Church.  She dedicated much of her life to taking care of her parents until they were called to their Heavenly home.  She truly enjoyed life, always making work fun whether it was with her father's or sister-in-law's bait and fish businesses or brightening the owners lives at Continental Condominiums.  She especially enjoyed ending her work days, with her family, in fellowship with the St. Andrew's Marina fishing community at the Harbor House Restaurant.  Over many years of adventures, she earned the nickname "Lucy" by often finding herself in unique and funny situations.

She loved and cherished her family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lt. Col. Donald E. Couchigian; daughter, Laura Jane Couchigian; her parents, Reverend Coy and Bonnie Raffield; sister, Betty Hammond; brother, Charles Raffield and one of her best friends, Francis Anglin.  She is survived by a daughter, Donna Couchigian; son, Richard Couchigian; daughter-in-law, Cindy Couchigian; four grandchildren, Alicia Burford (Bobby); April Goodson; Amy Lawson (Michael), Abbie Cox (Seth); seven great grandchildren, Brennan, Landon, Anderlynn, Colby, Paisleigh, Bryant, and Caroline; brother-in-law, Vern Hammond; brother, Bill Raffield (Evon); sister, Ima Evans (Alton); one of her best friends, Betty Kay Corson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ann's family is forever grateful to her Caregivers who provided excellent care and always ensured she felt loved and special.  Also, to Covenant Care's Hospice Team who also provided exceptional care and compassionately assisted Ann and her family as she transitioned to her Heavenly home.

A celebration of Ann's life will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the graveside.  In lieu of flowers. the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Annie "Ann" Jane Raffield Couchigian.
