Anna Lane Hester, 87 of Panama City, FL passed away Monday at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Farmersville, KY to Homer & Ida Mae Lane. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Joshua Hoskins and Matthew Hoskins and three brothers, Ray Lane, James Lane, Patrick Lane and a sister Rebecca Bain. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William Herman Hester; two daughters, Linda Adcock (Charlie), Pamela Boe (Richard); three grandchildren, Thomas Hoskins, Jr., Dr. Richard A. Boe, Jr. (Amy), Kimberly Boe; a great granddaughter, Kayle Hoskins; one soon to be born great granddaughter, baby Boe, sister-in-law, Irene Holman and special nephew, Ron Holman.
She was a resident of Bay County since 1954. She was a member of Cove Baptist Church for 20 years. Then, a member of First United Methodist Church for over 40 years, where she was a member of the Lillie Pennington Sunday School Class. Active in her church, she and her husband, Bill, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Their love of travel also included driving the church bus to take the youth on many trips. They enjoyed many years of travelling around the U.S. in a motor home with Bill doing most of the driving, while Ann navigated. She and Bill also travelled around the world, visiting 16 countries.
Ann worked with her husband in his business serving as administrator and bookkeeper. After retirement, she enjoyed working at the election polls and meeting new people. She served many years as a volunteer with the Bay Medical Auxiliary, another opportunity to reach out to people. An active member of the Panama City Woman's Club allowed her another opportunity to serve the community. She also was involved with the Shrine Club as she supported her husband, Bill, who served as Ambassador. For many years, she enjoyed many civic and social activities to include the Elks Club and even square dancing.
One of her favorite pastimes was fishing, as long as Bill baited the hook. When she was a resident of the Cove area, she was a familiar site doing her daily four-mile walk.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Luther officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1— 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 4001 W. 23rd Street, Suite C, Panama City, Fl 32405 in memory of Anna Hester. The family would also like to thank her caregivers, Glenda, Sue, Lyndia, Connie and Barbara for their excellent care and compassion.
