ALVIN BENSON FOURAKER
Alvin Benson Fouraker, "Daddy Hal" died on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his home in Lynn Haven, two months before his 91st birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Myrtle "Mimi" Fouraker in October of 2006, and his oldest daughter, Brenda Carden of Albany, GA in March of 1998. He is survived by his daughter, April "Pril" Bland, of Panama City, four grandchildren, Leigh Fackler Crouch of Newnan, GA, Blair Fackler and wife Suzanne, of Camilla, GA, Aprill Mercer and husband Mike, Sarah Steverson and husband Jason, all of Lynn Haven nine great grandchildren, Brooke, Chase, and Griffin Mercer, Julia and Ben Crouch, Jimmy Fackler, Abby, Mallory, and Jake Steverson, two nieces, Sheryl F. Lang of Warner Robbins, GA; Lynne Fouraker Craft and husband, Edwin of Jefferson, GA, and a nephew, Mark Fouraker and wife, Martha of Cox Creek, KY. Alvin was born in Liberty County on September 18, 1917. He attended Fort Braden School in Liberty County where his father served as principal. The family moved to the Millville area of Panama City in 1934 and Alvin completed his 11th grade year at Bay County High School. He moved to Jacksonville during his senior year and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1935. During World War II, he worked at the Papermill in Panama City and in 1945, he went into the service station business. He was the owner and operator of St. Andrew Gulf Service on Beck Avenue. While in the service station business, he was active in the Allied Gasoline Retailers Association and served as president from 1958 until 1960. In 1962, he sold that business and opened Fouraker Moving and Storage Company, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the former Buford Ennis Sunday School class. He was a Master Mason since 1947 with the Acme Masonic Lodge #222. During his active years, he enjoyed reading, vegetable gardening, bird hunting, traveling with his brother, Warren and following the stock market. He had an outstanding sense of humor and a keen intelligence. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and will be remembered as an exceptional grandfather and great grandfather. Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The family would like to thank his loving and faithful caregivers, Pat & Winston Scott of Lynn Haven and his niece, Sheryl Lang of Warner Robbins, GA.
