Alton Brooks Dean, 87, beloved son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully away at Clyde E Lassen State Veterans Nursing Home on March 4, 2022. He was born on October 27, 1934, in Coffee Springs, Alabama.
He moved to Panama City as a small child, and graduated from Bay High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1954 through 1957, and after basic training was stationed at USAG Heidelberg Army Base, Germany. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker, and retired from Gayeski Furniture. He had a lifelong love of music, particularily classical and church music. He was a talented church organist for nearly 50 years at churches around Panama City, most recently at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served for 25 years. He is survived by his daughters: Sara Faulkenberry and her husband, David, and Rachel Thornell and her husband, Mike; his grandchildren: Brittany Thornell and her fiancé, Stephen LeBlanc, Michael Thornell and his wife Aislinn, Brooke Thornell, Sara Beth Faulkenberry, and Jacob Thornell; his first great grandchild due in May; his sister, Emma Clarke and her husband, Mike, his brother Willard Dean; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Sara Bevel Dean, his parents, W.D. and Blanche Dean, an infant grandson, and his sister, Rudy Mae Aldrich.
The family will be forever grateful to the staff of Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care of our dad during the years he lived there. We will honor his life on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Wilson Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 AM, with the service at 11:00 AM. Graveside will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
