ALTHIA ANN STAFFORD

Althia Ann Stafford, 90, of Callaway, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Benton Stafford; daughter, Janet Floyd; son-in-law, Archie Floyd and grandson, Archie, Jr. Ann is survived by her son, James "Buddy" Benton Stafford, Jr. and his wife, Lynne; daughter, Jennifer Stedman and husband, Edward "Butch"; grandchildren, Katelyn McCloskey and her husband Rob and Jeremy Stafford; and great grandchildren, Sidney Stafford and Anderson McCloskey. Ann and Jim met and married during World War II while Jim was serving in the Marines. After the war, they moved to Port St. Joe to raise their family. Ann owned Jimmy's Restaurant in Port St. Joe for many years and was well-known as the best cook in the community. After the restaurant closed, the Stafford's managed housing units for Davis Property Management in Port St. Joe, Century and Quincy, Florida. Following retirement, they built a new home in Callaway. In recent years, Ann has enjoyed sitting on her porch watching the birds and squirrels and visiting with neighbors. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon CST on Friday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 CST noon prior to the service. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST at Holly Hill Cemetery, Port St. Joe, Florida. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Parker Building Fund, 4630 U.S. 98 Business, Panama City, FL 32404 where Ann was a member or to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405. Active pallbearers will be Frank Brite, Houston Taylor, David Weeks, Steve Bates and Al Scheffer. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Stafford, Bobby Schmit, Phil Earley, Bobby McKeirnan, Wayne McKeirnan, Donald Butler, Ted Dodson, James Williams and Wade Mitchell.
