ALMA RUTH GIBBS MADDUX
Alma Ruth Gibbs Maddux, 90, entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, February 8, 2014. Her departure from this earth leaves a void in the lives of her family and friends. She was born on September 1, 1923 to Howell C. and Maggie Lee Gibbs in Alamo, Georgia. She married James C. Maddux Sr. on September 11, 1944. She devoted her life to her family, friends and to her Lord.
She worked for Southern Bell as an operator and later as a machine operator at the Panama City Shirt Factory. She then devoted her time and efforts to her family. In the 80's and early 90's, she worked in the nursery at First Baptist Church of Panama City caring for the bed-babies. She was known as "Miss Ruth" and the children that she cared for loved her and sought her out whether at church or wherever their paths crossed.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City and was a member of the Joyful Servants / Priscilla Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Maddux Sr., her parents, Howell C. and Maggie Gibbs, a brother, Truett Gibbs and a sister, Rena Maddox. She is survived by her sons: Jimmy Maddux, Youngstown, Florida, Jerry Maddux (Norma), Florida, Weeki Wachee, grandchildren: Chasidy Maddux McLure (Chris) of Fountain, Florida, DaWayne Maddux (Tara) Weeki Wachee, Florida, a great grandson Camden Reese Maddux and her brother A.F. "Buck" Gibbs (Jeanette) of Alamo, Georgia.
A Celebration of her life through experience and scripture will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The family is eternally grateful to all medical professionals and of Sacred Heart Bay Medical, Glencove Nursing Pavilion, Gentiva Healthcare, and Emerald Coast Hospice that assisted with the treatment and care of our mom, grandmother and sister.
