ALFRED SMITH

Alfred Smith, 78, of Panama City, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in his home. He was born August 24, 1929 in McLean, Texas. He served in the Merchant Marines, the U.S. Army Air Corp, before retiring with the U.S. Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement, he went to work civil service with Textron. He was former President of the Oakland Terrace Men's Club. He was an active member of Hiland Park Baptist Church and sang with the Seniors of Excitement Group. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Mae Smith and a brother, Jerry Smith. He is survived by his wife, Jean Smith, daughter, Patricia Coffey, of Panama City, three step daughters, Nancy Tolar, of Dothan, AL, Charla Barnes, of Daphne, AL, Vickie Salter, of Chipley, two grandsons, Brandon Coffey, of Springhill, TN, Brian Coffey, of Vienna, WV, four great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Tonnie Davis, of Panama City, sister, Margie Reimer, of Pampa, TX, two brothers, Donald Smith, of Beaver, OK, Kenny Smith, of Ft. Worth, TX, sister, Glenda Woermer, of Alexandria, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 or to Hiland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 2611 Hwy 231, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Al Smith.
