Obituary

Alfred Frasier "Sonny" Myers, Sr., 89, of Panama City, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014. He was born May 6, 1925, in Chipley, Florida to Mr. and Mrs. George Matthew Myers.

Sonny was a 1943 graduate of Bay High School. In 1949, he was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church, Panama City. He was a founding member of Central Baptist and Cove Baptist Churches. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Panama City with the distinguished honor of Deacon Emeritus. He and his daughter, Beth shared their faith by singing together at numerous churches and events. He served with Charles Koonradt for 25 years as a volunteer chaplain at the Florida State Prison in Panama City. Later he served, with his son Frasier, as a volunteer chaplain at the Federal Prison at Tyndall Air Force Base. He started his business career as owner of Myers Auto Service and then partnered with Wallace Kendrick as owners of Kendrick-Myers Used Cars. In 1966 they expanded their partnership to become Kendrick-Myers Oldsmobile until Sonny's retirement in 1984.

He served as a Board of Director of Florida First Federal Savings Bank and was a lifetime member of the Gulf Coast State College Foundation. He received numerous awards for his volunteer efforts and contributions to the betterment of the inmates of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

His parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded Sonny in death. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Standifer Myers and five children, Alfred Frasier Myers, Jr., and wife, Deborah, Jeanne Myers Floyd, Dr. Stephen Carlton Myers, and wife, Mary Jo, Beth Myers Rains, and husband Jim, and Clifford Currie Myers, and wife, Myra, all of Panama City. Grandchildren include Alfred Frasier "Fred" Myers III and wife, Laura, of Panama City, Ann Marie Myers Sale and husband Robert, of Panama City, Ann Floyd Scallorn and husband, Bruce of Moscow, Idaho, John Stephen Floyd of Columbus, Georgia, Dr. Stephen Matthew Myers of Boston, Massachusetts, Charles Jordan Myers and wife Beverly, of Atlanta, Georgia, Renee' Hollis Taylor and husband Keith, of Panama City, Clifford Currie Myers, Jr. and wife Jennifer, of Birmingham, Alabama, Vivian Elizabeth Myers of Birmingham, Alabama, and William McIntosh "Mack" Myers of Panama City, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Senior Pastor Dr. Craig Conner officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons Alfred Frasier "Fred" Myers III, John Stephen Floyd, Dr. Stephen Matthew Myers, Charles Jordan Myers, Clifford Currie Myers, Jr., and William McIntosh "Mack" Myers. Honorary pallbearers are Pete Brannon, Earl Cochran, Dr. Sidney Daffin, John Drummond, Sr., Kent Hall, Pete Hannah, Tony Harper, Bobby Higdon, Lt. Col. George Jacobi, Ret., Frank Kendrick, Jack Laird, Joe Michael Littleton, G. H. McIntosh, Rev. Jerry Moore, Dr. Charles Nowlin, Rev. Dennis Pledger, Jimmy Richardson, A. D. Richbourg, Roth Rowell, Jim Moody, Harold Conrad, Tyrone Sheffield and Tim Sullivan.
