Obituary

ALEXANDROUS J DANDIS

Born December 16, 1929 in Cleveland Mississippi to the late John V Dandis and Tinye Belle Taylor. Alexandrous lived most of his life in Montgomery, Alabama. He began working at the age of 9, selling newspapers downtown near the Capital Building in Montgomery and worked in the Alabama Cafe which his father owned all while, going to school.

He served the U.S. Navy as a Gunner aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Newman K. Perry during WWII as a Seaman Second Class. Alex worked for over 20 years for Gerber Corporation as a District Sales Rep over parts of Florida, Alabama and Georgia. After retiring he opened Tanglewood Nursery because of his love for plants and landscaping. He went on to work for over 30 years for Holmberg Farms where several consecutive years he produced well over one million in sales. Most recently Alex worked at Ace Hardware in the Garden Center, retiring at age 87.

Over a span of 20 years he was a football referee for high school and college football in Alabama and Florida. He was an avid runner and member of Panhandle Runners Club, participating in 5K, 10K, and Marathons winning many trophies and ribbons running well into his late 60s.

Alexandrous was preceded in death by his parents, John V Dandis and Tinye Belle Dandis; a son, Jon Michael Dandis; granddaughter, Kaitlin Elizabeth Miller; brother, Sammy Dandis; sister, Helen Luna.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Judith Richards Dandis; daughter, Denise Dandis Miller (Joel); granddaughters, Shelli Christen Rose (Zack), Carrie Alysia Mang (Michael), Lydia Rene' Davis (Chris). Eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Isabel Hood, Gavin Oliver Rose, Madison Grace Mang, Michael Vincent Mang, Rowen Alexandrous Mang, Peyton Thomas Davis, Mason Riley Davis and Jade Dandis. He is also survived by his cousin, Mary Sideris Zgouvas of Montgomery.

Serving as pallbearers are Zack Rose, Michael Mang, Chris Davis, Doug Moore, David Cottle and Pastor Neil Hickem.

Honorary Pallbearers are Grover Holland, Billy Dean, Jerry Boyette and all those in the LLL Sunday School Class.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 19, 2017 at 11 am in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10-11 am prior to the service.
