ALEX MATHIS, JR.
Alex Mathis, Jr. of Panama City died Saturday, September 30. He was born Feb. 3, 1919, to Alex Mathis and Annie Adcock Mathis in Dothan, Alabama. He was a graduate of Bay High School and of Stetson University. Mr. Mathis was a member of First Baptist Church and BPO Elks. He was the long-time owner of Panama Office Supply Co. In earlier years, Mr. Mathis was active in the Kiwanis Club, the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club, and the Panama Country Club. His favorite, life-long hobby was fishing.
Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nan Pope Mathis. He is survived by his daughter, Nell Mathis Ennis (Powell); son Robert Mathis; sister Jeannette Mathis Gramling; grandchildren Mary Nell Mathis, Robert Powell Ennis, Jr. (Tiffany), Charles Griffith Ennis (Kellie), and Wesley Merritt Ennis (Kendall); and great-granddaughter Grace Hampton Ennis.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Oct. 2 at 10:00 am at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 2403 Harrison Ave. There will be a visitation Sunday, Oct. 1, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home.
