A. D. Richbourg, my Sweetheart, friend and husband of 71 years, left me Oct. 12, 2014 at Chester Sims Veterans Home to be the first of us to join our wonderful Jesus Christ and His Angels. I told him that I would be with him when it's my time. A. D. (Adrian Dee) and we had two wonderful sons, Adrian Colter "Colt" Richbourg (Barbara), Randal Wade "Randy" Richbourg (Kay) of Panama City; grandson, Adrian Kristian Richbourg (Natalie) Colt's son by his former wife, Suzanne Forehand Wood (Bill) of Port St. Joe, FL; Randy and Kay's sons, A.D.'s grandsons, Ryan Dakota Richbourg and Jordan William Richbourg (U.S. Navy); great grandchildren, Tatum Annabella Richbourg of AL, Adrian Jacob "A. J" Richbourg and Kinsley Ann Richbourg of Panama City.
A. D.'s parents were Mattie Lee Dykes Richbourg Campbell and Chester Lee Richbourg of this city. His brother, Horace Mitchell Richbourg (Ruth Cook) of Marianna FL and sister, Daisy Lee Richbourg Hobbs Engelhardt (Daniel)of Dunedin FL, all predeceasing him. His step-father Tam Campbell also of this city predeceased him. Surviving him, he has two half brothers, Bill Campbell of AL and Wilson Richbourg of Panama City; nephews, Stephen Engelhardt and Paul Engelhardt, Mattie Ruth Richbourg Williams of Atlanta and Carolyn Richbourg Crumpler of Marianna; two special cousins, Sarah Mae Masker Williams and Lillian Masker Welch of Panama City; a beloved brother-in-law, John A. Delcomyn and his daughters, Laura S. Delcomyn Roberts of Tallahassee and Carrie A. Delcomyn; a special nephew George O. Penton all of Panama City; and nieces, Madeline Penton Sitzes of Houston and Dorothy Jean Penton Crawford of Huntsville, AL.
He was a 1942 graduate of Bay High School where he was co-capt. of the football team and listed in the Dec. 5, 1941 issue of the News Herald as an All American halfback. He attended a half year at the Univ. of AL, at which time he enlisted in the Army, where he trained at Camp Blanding FL. When he came home for leave, he married Mildred Penton at First Baptist Church by Rev. E. D. McDaniel, and Sonny Myers their longtime friend was best-man. He shipped out to the Tank Destroyers in Camp Hood, TX, then to the Field Artillery Ft. Sill OK, and Camp Howze, TX for overseas training. He sailed out of N. Y. on the Thomas H. Barry to England where his unit, the 241st Field Artillery Battalion soon became part of Gen. Patton's new 3rd Army. Soon they landed on August 20 on Utah Beach after the initial landing. After some time in the artillery he was transferred to the Infantry in the midst of the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and sent back to Welch Convalescent Hospital in Daytona Beach for rehab.
The year FSU became co-ed, we attended college, A. D graduating in 1950. He became a teacher at West Bay Elementary and Everitt Middle School. He then became an Administrative Assistant for 13 years at Tyndall Elementary School and retired after 20 years as principal of Hiland Park Elementary. The gym is named the A.D. Richbourg Health and Fitness Gymnasium for his untiring effort to have an enclosed area for his students to have their P. E. classes.
A. D. and Mildred have been members of the St. Andrew Baptist Church for 58 years. He has a life membership in the PTA, a past member of the Retired Administrators Assoc., a May 28, 1949 member of the Beta Psi Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, a Life Member of the Jamestowne Society, and a member of the Bay County Genealogy Society.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30 at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Morris Denman officiating.
