DAVID L. GARRETT
David L. Garrett, 68, passed away in Panama City, Florida, on May 1, 2012. David was a life-long resident of Panama City and was a 1961 graduate of Bay High School and a graduate of Gulf Coast Community College, where he played baseball, and Florida State University. He served his country for four years in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated a long-haul highway trucking business for many years and then worked for Airborne Express and DHL Express before retiring in 2009.
David was an avid bass fisherman and loved the sport dearly; he worked in the evenings for Airborne and D HL so he could go fishing during the days. He enjoyed gatherings with his classmates and also drinking coffee at Flap Jacks in Lynn Haven. His special life-long friends were Jacob Blackwell, Bobby Conner, Edgar Daffin, John Halas, Russ Hall, Bobby Hurst, Jim Husbands and their wives, Mack Tucker and Jerry Anderson.
He was predeceased by his parents, LaRue and Mildred Garrett, and his brother, Tommy Garrett. He is survived by his cousins, Walton Williams of Port St. Joe, Florida, Sonny Lightsey of Ponte Vedra, Florida and Brenda Ekdahl of Westfield, Indiana.
The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday from 5 - 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bay High School Class of 1961.
